| Developing Adapted Technologies
As a pioneer with a large-scale Wi-Fi network project, under way since 2003, Ozone often has to work around the unavailability of solutions suitable for coverage of dense urban areas such as Paris . Existing technologies are usually designed for very limited coverage areas (HotSpots), or for the type of urban fabric common in North American cities, i.e. mostly incompatible with large European towns. .
Ozone therefore had no choice but to develop its own technological solutions, adapted to its own vision of the Pervasive Network, deployment modalities and concrete constraints in the field.
The resulting solutions are mainly specific combinations of pre-existent elements, carefully selected by Ozone after real-life field tests under various conditions, as well as specially developed hardware or software components acting at different levels.
The solutions designed and developed by Ozone address two essential issues inherent to the network’s architecture:
Building an urban network with several thousand nodes, completely wireless and WI-Fi based, within in a point-to-multipoint infrastructure .
Improving indoor reception quality, by providing subscribers with an Ozone Ombrelle. This “Umbrella” offers our users constant signal quality within their premises. It can also constitute their own shielded local area network. In addition, the Ombrelle emits a public signal, fully separate from the subscriber’s own, and to which any user within range can connect.
